The short version: we collect as little as we can, we never sell anything, and this site sets no cookies.

Who we are
Berkhamsted Tech Meet-up is run by Nick Harding and Peter Stuart, as volunteers. They decide how the personal data described here is used. For anything on this page, email hello@berkhamsted.tech.
What we collect and why
- Emails you send us
- Your address and message, so we can reply and follow up on a talk suggestion. We rely on our legitimate interest in running the meet-up. We do not add you to any mailing list.
- The WhatsApp community
- Your name and phone number are visible to other members and the organisers once you join. We use the group for dates, speakers and the odd reminder, and nothing else. You choose to join and can leave whenever you like.
- Photos and recordings
- Photos from the evening and, sometimes, recordings of talks. Speakers give their consent in advance. Everyone in the room is told before the evening, and we rely on our legitimate interest in showing what the meet-up is like. We only name people who have agreed to it.
- Visiting this site
- Our hosting provider keeps standard server logs (such as IP address, browser and the page requested) for a short time to keep the site secure and working. We do not use them to identify anyone.
Who else handles it
We never sell or share your details. A few services handle data for us or alongside us: Vercel hosts this site, WhatsApp (Meta) runs the community group, our email provider carries messages to and from us, and YouTube or Vimeo host recordings. Some of these are based in the United States. Where data leaves the UK, it is covered by their data protection terms and the safeguards UK law requires. Sponsors never receive attendee details.
How long we keep it
Emails: up to two years after our last exchange, then deleted. Photos and recordings: kept as a record of past meet-ups until someone asks us to remove them. WhatsApp: until you leave the group, or we remove inactive members. Server logs: kept by our hosting provider for a short period, then deleted.
Your rights
Under UK data protection law you can ask to see, correct or delete the personal data we hold about you, object to how we use it, or withdraw consent you have given (for example, to a recording). Email us and we will sort it, within a month at the latest. If you appear in a photo or recording and want it removed, tell us and we will remove it.
If you are unhappy with how we have handled your data, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk.
Changes
If we change how we handle data, we will update this page and the date at the top.
